{"id":681,"date":"2022-01-27T19:58:59","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T03:58:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mtbakerrockclub.org\/?p=681"},"modified":"2023-01-03T18:58:25","modified_gmt":"2023-01-04T02:58:25","slug":"general-meeting-minutes-on-january-17-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mtbakerrockclub.org\/?p=681","title":{"rendered":"General Meeting Minutes on January 17, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President Candi Gerard called the meeting to order at 7 pm, at the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center, 2007 Cherry St, Ferndale.\u00a0 Candi welcomed everyone to the meeting.\u00a0 Masks were worn by all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Secretary:\u00a0 <\/strong>The minutes are approved from the December 20, 2021, General Meeting.\u00a0 There is a flyer for members to take for the Everett Rock &amp; Gem Club, May 28 and 29, 2022, at the Monroe Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tr<\/strong><strong>easurer:<\/strong>\u00a0 The treasurer provided a report. $2.50 per household for NFMS annual dues will be paid at the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Membership:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0We have over 180 families.\u00a0 3 new members last week.\u00a0 New ones tonight too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Federation:<\/strong>\u00a0 No report.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Washington State Mineral Council (WSMC): <\/strong>\u00a0Michael reported for WA mineral counsel going over the 2022 WSMC Sponsored Field Trips (see attached document for more details)\u00a0 Note:\u00a0 Club members can join in these field trips.\u00a0 The link is:\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/mineralcouncil.files.wordpress.com\/2021\/04\/2021-rock-activities.pdf\">\u00a02021-rock-activities.pdf (wordpress.com)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sandy Hess will be doing a Beach fieldtrip in June.\u00a0 More information will be coming<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wagonmaster:\u00a0 <\/strong>A volunteer or committee is still needed to start planning field trips next spring.\u00a0 Contact any board member for more information.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lapidary:<\/strong>\u00a0 The room is open from 6-9 Thursday night, cost is $10.00.\u00a0 If this is your first time, please let us know.\u00a0 There is a fee for cuts after the first cut.\u00a0 If there is a rock that needs to be cut, you can leave it at the mall and someone can cut it for you.\u00a0 The room will be unavailable from Feb 1<sup>st<\/sup>&#8211; first couple of weeks in Feb as Gordy and Candi will be gone.<\/p>\n<p>You can stop by and get a short tour anytime the room is open.\u00a0 Near the JC Penny wing of Bellis Fair Mall is our store. \u00a0Store is open every day except Monday.\u00a0 Has rocks, shells, jewelry, fossils, gifts, and treasures.\u00a0 December was very busy for the store.\u00a0 Thank you to all volunteers who helped!<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Show 2022:\u00a0 <\/strong>The next show is March 26-27, 2022, Pioneer Pavilion Community Center, 2007 Cherry St, Ferndale.\u00a0 The room is scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>We need someone to drive the U-Haul truck with all the displays for the show, etc. We will have sign-up sheets for volunteers to fill out at the next meeting.\u00a0 Display cabinets are at Gordy and Candy\u2019s and needs to be delivered to and from the show.\u00a0 We need volunteers to load up the display cases and then to unload after the weekend show.\u00a0 We also need volunteers to work during the show.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are 30 display cases that Wes says the members can display their collections, or things that they have made.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Old Business: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vests for the club members.\u00a0 We can get vests from a company in Bellingham.\u00a0 If someone wants to take this on, and organize this to handle orders for vests, making the order with the vendor\u2014please contact Candi.\u00a0 There are two extra vests (small and medium size) for sale at the mall if someone wants one.<\/p>\n<p>Name tags are one per new member.\u00a0 The first one is free.\u00a0 If you lose yours and just want another one, there is a charge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Business: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rockhound Rendezvous- Everyone has their own table to sell items to other members or the public.\u00a0 $20 per space 8-10ft space.\u00a0 If you are interested, there is a sign-up sheet.\u00a0 It will be at the Ferndale Pavilion and Sharon Gelenyse is in charge of this.\u00a0 You have to bring your own tables.\u00a0 More information is coming.\u00a0\u00a0Maybe 3<sup>rd<\/sup> or 4<sup>th<\/sup> Sat of June.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Show and tell:\u00a0 Red Rocks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Glenn also talked about Rock Tumbling class sign ups.\u00a0 There will also be a rock tumbling class on January 24<sup>th<\/sup> at 6 pm at the Bellis Fair mall store.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The following information on the rock tumbling classes from last meeting seems to be still valid:<\/p>\n<p>Glenn gave a report on a Rock Tumbling class he will be instructing at the Jansen Art Center in Lynden on January 19, 2022, 6:00-7:30 pm.\u00a0 You must contact the Jansen Art Center for information and sign up.\u00a0 There will be a Rock Tumbling class in March also at the Jansen Art Center.\u00a0 Link:\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jansenartcenter.org\">www.jansenartcenter.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Bellis Fair store is now selling grit for rock tumbling.\u00a0 Thank you, Glenn.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers are needed to help at the Bellis Mall store.\u00a0 You would be a helper to an experienced volunteer at the mall store to greet customers, sell items, and watch for theft.\u00a0 You will learn a lot about rocks!<\/p>\n<p>Bulletin board for a 3 x 5 card to post items for sale that are rock related.\u00a0 Also memos for classes are posted at the store.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a Wire Wrapping class in January.
