{"id":724,"date":"2022-05-03T13:19:17","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T20:19:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mtbakerrockclub.org\/?p=724"},"modified":"2023-01-03T18:57:40","modified_gmt":"2023-01-04T02:57:40","slug":"general-meeting-minutes-april-18-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mtbakerrockclub.org\/?p=724","title":{"rendered":"General Meeting Minutes, April 18, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President Candi Gerard called the meeting to order at 7 pm, at the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center, 2007 Cherry St, Ferndale.\u00a0 Candi welcomed everyone to the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Drawings for prizes for all members and for new members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Secretary:\u00a0 <\/strong>The minutes are approved from the March 21, 2022, General Meeting.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Tr<\/strong><strong>easurer:<\/strong>\u00a0 The treasurer, Deb Gannaway, provided a report.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Membership:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wes:\u00a0 Ten new members from the rock show in March and 2 new members from today\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Federation:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Michael reported that the Federation Show will be held September 30-October 2, 2022, in Hillsborough, Oregon. Wes says the Federation Show schedule is also posted at the club\u2019s mall store.<\/li>\n<li>NW Federation Show is August 3-6, 2023, in Billings, Montana.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Washington State Mineral Council (WSMC):\u00a0 <\/strong>Michael:<strong> \u00a0<\/strong>May 21, Marble Mount- small fee for Talc and Listwanite.\u00a0 Please check the WSMC website for more information about other field trips and where\/when to meet.\u00a0 \u00a0The website is: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mineralcouncil.files.wordpress.com\/2022\/01\/fieldtrips_2022-1.pdf\">2022 Trips.pub &#8211; Microsoft Publisher (wordpress.com)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wagonmaster:\u00a0 <\/strong>No report.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lapidary:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We will be needing more help in the Lapidary room. Glenn is not going to be available soon, as he will be moving.<\/li>\n<li>The room is open from 6-9 pm, Thursday nights, cost is $10 for members. If this is your first time, please let us know.\u00a0 There is a fee for cuts after the first cut.\u00a0 If there is a rock that needs to be cut, you can leave it at the mall and someone can cut it for you.\u00a0 Maximum size for a cut is about 7 inches.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>To use the Lapidary room, you must have taken the orientation class. The class is $30 and is from 6-9 pm on Tuesday nights.\u00a0 Please sign up at the mall and well in advance, as only 4 people can be in the Lapidary room at a time due to space constraints and the mall requires a 3-day notice for staying later than the mall regular hours.\u00a0 Next orientation class is on March 29, Tuesday.<\/li>\n<li>Please be sure to clean up after yourself in the Lapidary room. Take an extra 15 minutes or so to clean up so the volunteers do not have to do all the cleanup.<\/li>\n<li>You can stop by and get a short tour anytime the room is open. Near the JC Penny wing of Bellis Fair Mall is our store.\u00a0 Store is open every day except Monday.\u00a0 Has rocks, shells, jewelry, fossils, gifts, and treasures.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Show 2022:\u00a0 <\/strong>Wes said it was a great success.\u00a0 We were able to do 2 scholarships at $1000 each.\u00a0 We plan on doing the show again next year.\u00a0 Thank you to everyone who helped!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Old Business:\u00a0 <\/strong>No report.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Business:\u00a0 <\/strong>Rockhound Rendezvous is Saturday, June 11, at the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center.\u00a0 Rock club members can have their own table to sell rock related items to other members or the public.\u00a0 $20 per space 10ft space.\u00a0 10 am-5 pm.\u00a0 Setup is at 8 am.\u00a0 If you are interested, there is a sign-up sheet during the meeting or you can contact Michael or Sharon.\u00a0 You can also sign up at the club store at Bellis Fair.\u00a0 You have to bring your own tables.\u00a0 Event is open to the public and there is no entry fee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Next General Meeting:\u00a0 <\/strong>May 16, Monday, 7:00 pm, at the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center, 2007 Cherry St, Ferndale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Show and Tell:\u00a0 <\/strong>Fluorite<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Break<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>April Presentation:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Wes had a slide show about the different types of crystals in different types of Calcite.\u00a0 Members brought Calcite for Wes to talk about, along with the samples Wes brought.<\/p>\n<p>Interesting facts from presentation: \u00a0Calcite makes up 2% of the earth.\u00a0 Can come in different colors.\u00a0 Alabaster and Onyx marble are also Calcite.\u00a0 Many are luminescent with the appropriate light in the dark.\u00a0 Roman\u2019s used Calcite in their cement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>We will be doing presentations at future meetings, so if you are interested in doing a presentation, please contact Bonnie Keel<strong>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm<\/p>\n<p>Respectfully submitted by Robin Hitz<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div>You need to add a widget, row, or prebuilt layout before you&#8217;ll see anything here. \ud83d\ude42<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Candi Gerard called the meeting to order at 7 pm, at the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center, 2007 Cherry St, Ferndale.\u00a0 Candi welcomed everyone to the meeting.
