Canyon Creek Fossils

The book “Rockhounding Washington” by Lars W. Johnson describes site 32 as Canyon Creek for Eocene leaf fossils. This site is located in the Mt. Baker National Forest, east of Glacier in Whatcom County. The author describes coming to a fork off of Canyon Creek Road/ NF-31 where you should turn off to the right. Unfortunately that turnoff is now gated. There is room for several vehicles to park, but now you will have to walk uphill to the quarry. By using Google Earth, it appears that a modest 200′ elevation gain is required.

GPS coordinates for the gated road are: 48 55′ 12.66″, -121 57′ 43.13″
